The Fotona Laser combines laser energy with water and air to safely cut and shape soft or hard tissues in the mouth. Laser energy precisely cuts through tooth structure by exciting the water molecules in the tooth. This Laser can assist us with procedures ranging from surgeries to soothing jaw pain through Photobiomodulation. In surgery mode, it is doing the work while killing bacteria and promoting healing. In Photobiomodulation mode, it is increasing cellular energy, reducing inflammation, while repairing and regenerating tissue.
The Fotona Laser is photo acoustic not photo thermal. This means, when you are cutting hard tissue or removing decay (cavities) you are not increasing the temperature that can kill healthy tissue. Traditional burs increase the tooth and bone temperature essentially harming it.
While dental lasers are an excellent treatment option in many situations, they cannot be used in all circumstances, and ultimately it will be up to the Doctor as to whether or not you are candidate.
